Elizabeth had been the first to die.
Victor sat on the floor of his TARDIS, darkness surrounding him. For the first time in years, he was completely alone. No loving wife, no children, not even the Shadow.
It had all started on a routine time-travel trip with the family, Shadow and Aaron tagging along. That was, routine until they encountered the daleks.
Where they had come from, Victor still did not know. Shouting in their metallic voices, they had appeared out of nowhere, killing Elizabeth in an instant. Her cold body had lain on the ground as the rest ran, trying to reach the TARDIS before the daleks could get them too.
Shadow and Aaron had taken their TARDISes and escaped quickly. But as for Emily and Victor's son, they had not been able to go fast enough. Victor tried to pull them away, but it was too late. They each began to regenerate, but the daleks kept shooting. Every single incarnation had been killed withing the same five minutes.
Victor was the sole survivor in his family. Sitting in the darkness he let out an angry cry. Why had the daleks not taken him too? Why did they have to put him through so much pain, so much loss?
But he would not feel the pain alone. He would make others feel it.
Standing up shakily, Victor brought his TARDIS to his home, where he ran straight to the house next door. He slammed the door open. Seeing the Shadow, Victor walked towards him. Shadow had a look of grief on his face, but Victor would not have it.
"It's your fault that my family is dead," Victor began, pointing to the Shadow. "If you hadn't shown up, I would have been perfectly happy with my human life, living it out normally. But you had to come, to break up my family and then reunite it, to convince me to travel the universe once more. Without you, I would be sitting at home happily, with my daughter, my son, Elizabeth..."
